THE BIBLE, THE WORD OF GOD

Sunday (AM) June 4, 2017

I have heard that the Bible is a recipe book, a model, a hymn (all about Him), and a love story.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

T. D. Jakes on the Oprah show concerning Homosexuality was asked his opinion. Here is his reply:

"I'm not calléd to give an opinion. I'm called as a pastor to give the spiritual position on it (homosexuality). It doesn't mean that I have to agree with you to love you. I don't dislike anyone. I love everybody. I think that sex between two people of the same sex is condemned in the scriptures, and as long as it is condemned in the scriptures; I don't get to say what I think; I get to say what the Bible says."

2 Peter 1:16, 20-21

Hebrews 4:12-13 : A surgical instrument - a two-edged sword

Do we really believe?

1 Thessalonians 2:13

l. You received (believed! the Word of God.
2, You welcomed it not as being from man but as it is in Truth, the Word of God.
3. You accepted it as the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (ESV)

2 Peter 1:16-21

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (ESV)

Hebrews 4:12-13

12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (ESV)

1 Thessalonians 2:13

13 And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers. (ESV)
